Dubrovnik I

Day One started late, but did not lack in adventure. We toured Old Town, dipped our feet in the sea, and had a magnificent-- and magnificently cheap dinner before heading back to Zaton.

Every morning began with the smell of orange blossoms carried into our room by the salty Adriatic wind. Then, we were greeted by a mammoth breakfast of homemade bread, cheeses, cookies (!), fruit, chocolate, tea, coffee, and fresh orange juice.

The first thing one sees standing outside the Old Town is a beautiful, tiny park next to the city's walls dipping into the bright blue water. In the middle of the park: a statue.
Notice the man (he himself a fawn) is almost startle and surprised by the appearance of his lover as he holds a sheep in his arms. Funny story about that: Sheep are featured in many pieces of art throughout Dalmatia and when asked about the mutton-ous phenomenon, locals told us that the older generations believe a man is not-- could not be a good lover and husband without first practicing his duty er, um...elsewhere.

Old Town Dubrovnik starts at the sea and crawls its way up a hill, creating these fabulous narrow alleys that connect the main streets of the city. Whether going up the stairs or down, an exploration of these side streets takes you to some of the best shopping in town.

Throughout old town, large lantern/sconces are hung above the door of every shop and boutique.

Each one is personalized.
